The Berkeley College Department of Athletics is proud to announce that Andy DeStephano was named the Athletic Director of the Year by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association earlier this week at the National convention in Pittsburgh, PA.
"We are extremely proud of all that Andy has accomplished and the great work that will continue to happen in athletics under his leadership," said Dallas Reed, Berkeley College's Vice President, Student Development and Campus Life. "It's terrific to see his diligent efforts get recognized, and it's an honor that she take a tremendous amount of pride in."
DeStephano was named Director of Athletics at Berkeley College in 2013 after joining the department in 2010. Since arriving at the institution, he has been instrumenal in overseeing the creation and implementation of six intercollegiate varsity sports; a new state-of-the-art athletic Website; and an annual Athletic Banquet. Also under his leadership, the Berkeley College secured its first National title when the Men's Basketball team won the USCAA Division II National Championship this past March.
In addition to being named USCAA Athletic Director of the Year, DeStephano will serve President of Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the 2015-2016 season.
DeStephano joined Berkeley College in 2008 as an adjunct instructor, Management, Larry L. Luing School of Business. He was named Assistant Athletic Director in 2010 and was promoted to Associate Athletic Director in 2012. Prior to joining Berkeley College, he served as Head Men's Basketball Coach at Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ, where he was the youngest Head Coach in the program's history, bringing nearly a decade of coaching experience to the position.
DeStephano has extensive experience with basketball camps and has served as an owner, director, guest lecturer, coach and counselor, among other positions. He holds an MBA from Centenary College and a BS in Sports Management from St. John's University, NY.
