Red-hot Knights register four victories in last six games, improving to 4-6 on the season

The Berkeley College men's basketball team put forth a 4-2 record in recent contests, as the Knights picked up victories against Penn State New Kensington (90-89 on December 2), Penn State Hazleton (90-84 on December 8), Penn State Du Bois (88-78 on December 9) and Paul D. Camp Community College (64-53 on December 14), while suffering losses to Penn State Shenango (92-86 on December 1) and Apprentice (81-65 on December 13). With that aforementioned output, the Knights are not 4-6 on the 2025-2026 campaign.

December 1, 2025: Penn State Shenango 92, Berkeley 86

Despite the loss to the Nittany Lions, Berkeley College was paced by DaMarco Watson, as the standout connected on eight of his 18 attempts from the floor to tie for the game-high of 25 points. He also snatched seven rebounds and swiped a game-high four steals. Jesse Taylor netted 17 points while dishing four assists and collecting three rebounds, and Justyce Coleman posted a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Finally, Justin Umunakwe contributed 12 points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

In the victory for Penn State Shenango, Darius Williams tied for the game-high of 25 points (8-14 FG, 8-8 FT). He also dished five assists and snatched four rebounds, as well. Izzy Santiago contributed 23 points, four rebounds, two assists, and a pair of steals, and Jordan Dotson netted 13 points while snatching eight boards. Finally, it was Rhys Grocott (5-6 FG) posting a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Berkeley trailed by as many as 15 points on two occasions in the opening half, but the Knights finished the session on a 14-5 run to inch to within six (46-40) following 20 minutes of action. The Knights fell behind by as many as 17 points in the second half, but battled back to get to within three (85-82) on Watson's bucket with 3:00 remaining. Berkeley scratched to within one (87-86), but that would be the closest the Knights would get, as the hosts scored the final five points of the contest to capture it.

The Nittany Lions were the more efficient team shooting the basketball, as Penn State Shenango converted on 34 of its 66 shots from the floor (51.5 percent), while Berkeley connected on 35 of 80 attempts (43.8 percent). Each team pulled down 37 rebounds on the evening, and Penn State Shenango held a 21-17 edge in assists. Berkeley swiped 12 steals compared to seven for the Nittany Lions, and the Knights also won the turnover battle, committing just 10 miscues compared to 15 for the opposition.

December 2, 2025: Berkeley 90, Penn State New Kensington 89

The Knights were paced by Jesse Taylor in their victory over Penn State New Kensington, as he scored a team-high 30 points (9-19 FG, 9-10 FT) to go along with a team-high nine rebounds. Watson added 23 points on 11-of-12 shooting, and Coleman finalized his evening with 18 points and seven rebounds.

In the victory for the Nittany Lions, Ta'Rasi Means netted a game-high 35 points (13-21 FG, 6-8 FT) to go along with a game-high seven assists and three rebounds. Keith Rockmore Jr. connected on five triples to finish with 24 points and a pair of rebounds, and Donaven Johnson scored 13 points while collecting five rebounds and dishing five assists. Finally, it was Tobias Obel finishing with 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

The Knights trailed 6-0, and by as many as 16 points three different times in the first half, before rallying to close to within six (43-37) as time expired on the opening session. In the second half, Berkeley continued to chip away, eventually tying the game at 60 following a bucket by Coleman with 12:15 remaining.

Berkeley would later lead 69-68, but a 10-0 run by New Kensington gave the Nittany Lions a 78-69 advantage with 5:29 to play. The Knights then responded with an 18-3 run to take an 87-81 advantage with 46 seconds left in the contest.

Later, the Knights held 90-89 with one second remaining, but Means would misfire on a three-point basket at the buzzer to give Berkeley the thrilling vitory.

Berkeley earned a 60.7 percent conversion rate (34-56) for the evening, and the Knights also performed well at the free throw line, connecting on 17 of 20 there (85 percent). On the flip side, Penn State New Kensington also put together a stellar shooting evening, nailing 31 of 50 attempts from the floor (62 percent) and earning a 76.2 percent conversion rate from the stripe (16-21). The Knights held slim edges in rebounds (28-26) and steals (1-0). The hosts held a commanding advantage in assists (18-5), and Berkeley won the turnover battle, committing just 12 miscues, while Penn State New Kensington committed 16.

December 8, 2025: Berkeley 90, Penn State Hazleton 84

Four players scored in double figures for the Knights in their victory against Penn State Hazleton, led by Watson, as the standout netted a game-high 24 points (9-12 FG, 6-10 FT) to go along with seven rebounds and a pair of assists. Dashawn Koromah finalized his evening with 18 points and six rebounds, and Umunakwe contributed 17 points, two boards, and a pair of assists.

For the Nittany Lions, Shamell Ponds posted a double-double with team-highs of 21 points and 10 rebounds. He also added four assists and two steals. Andre Campbell contributed 17 points, two rebounds, and a pair of steals, and Saivon Pressley netted 15 points, grabbed five rebounds, and swiped a game-high five steals. Finally, it was Jaden Aladetohun finishing with 14 points and eight rebounds.

The Knights led by as many as 14 points in the first half, but a 7-2 run by the Nittany Lions to close the session sliced Berkeley's advantage to nine (36-27) after 20 minutes of action. Berkeley had its lead sliced to two in the second half, but the Knights shot 61.3 percent in the second half to consistently hold off Penn State Hazleton's effort to catapult into the lead. The Knights would hold off the Nittany Lions, winning the game by six.

Berkeley College was the far more efficient team shooting the basketball, connecting on 57.4 percent of its attempts from the floor (35-61), while Penn State Hazleton earned a conversion rate of 34.2 percent (26-76). The teams snatched 41 rebounds apiece, and Penn State Hazleton held edges in assists (11-10) and steals (10-5). The Knights swatted four shots to the Nittany Lions' one, and the hosts won the turnover battle, committing just 10 miscues, while Berkeley finished with 19.

December 9, 2025: Berkeley 88, Penn State Du Bois 78

Berkeley College used a pair of balanced halves to extend its winning streak to three games, outscoring Penn State Du Bois 50-43 in the first half, before netting 38 points to the hosts' 35 to account for the 10-point win.

December 13, 2025: Apprentice 81, Berkeley 65

Despite the loss to the Builders, Berkeley College was paced by DaMarco Watson, as the standout connected on nine of his 17 attempts from the floor to finish with team-highs of 19 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Justin Umunakwe contributed 15 points and five rebounds, and Jesse Taylor finalized his evening with 10 points and seven rebounds.

In the victory for Apprentice, the Builders were paced by Jahlil Hope scored a game-high 25 points (8-15 FG, 8-9 FT) to go along with eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Devon Brown added 20 points, tied for the game-high nine rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks. Jabari Brackett netted 13 points, snatched three rebounds, tallied an assist, and blocked a shot, and finally, it was Wayne Hedgepeth nearly recording a double-double, finishing with 11 points and tying for game-highs of nine rebounds and four assists.

The Builders and Knights were in a defensive struggle in the first half as neither team was able to establish offensive footing. Berkeley led by as many as nine in the frame, but the Builders started to break through, snatching the momentum prior to halftime by taking a 29-27 lead into the break.

In the second half, Apprentice notched up the intensity on both ends, shooting 22-of-34 over the final 20 minutes to pull away and win the game by 16 points.

The Builders were the more efficient team shooting the basketball, as Apprentice converted on 32 of its 67 shots from the floor (47.8 percent), while Berkeley connected on 25 of 62 attempts (40.3 percent). Apprentice held a commanding 46-33 edge on the glass, while also tallying 14 assists to Berkeley's eight, and holing a slim 10-9 edge in steals. The Builders swatted five shots compared to three for the Knights, and Apprentice won the turnover battle, committing 15 miscues to Berkeley's 16.

December 14, 2025: Berkeley 64, Paul D. Camp C.C. 53

In Berkeley College's victory over the Gators, Watson finished with a game-high 15 points (9-11 FT) to go along with five rebounds, three steals, and a pair of assists. Yasin Adbur-Rashid netted 14 points while swiping a game-high five steals and adding a pair of dimes, and Josiah Mitchener finalized his evening with 13 points and six boards.

Paul D. Camp Community College was paced by Calvin Beatty with a team-high 14 points go along with four rebounds. Derrick Teele added 12 points and a team-high four steals, and Malik Smith netted 11 points while snatching a team-high six rebounds and adding a pair of steals.

With the Knights trailing 29-27 at the half, the teams would exchange the lead three times over the opening 7:11 of the second half, with the final pendulum swing coming when Watson converted on two freebees to five Berkeley a 39-38 advantage. The Knights would never trail again from that point forward, building a lead as large as 15 points before going on to capture the victory by 11.

Berkeley was the more efficient team shooting the basketball, converting on 38.6 percent of its shots from the floor (17-44), while the Gators earned a conversion rate of just 31.4 percent (16-51). The Knights held a commanding 42-27 edge on the glass, and a slim 12-10 advantage in steals. Berkeley swatted four shots to Paul D. Camp Community College's one. The Gators held a 6-5 edge in assists, and they also won the turnover battle, committing 19 miscues to Berkeley's 22.

Berkeley will return to action on Thursday evening, as the Knights will play their home opener against NACIA foe Bloomfield. The game will take place at Achievement First Brooklyn High School, with a start-time of 8:00pm.
