The Berkeley College New York men's soccer team picked up a dominant victory Wednesday evening over former HVIAC foe Pratt Institute, as the Knights blasted the Cannoneers by a score of 9-1 in a non-conference match that took place at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, NY. With the win, the Knights extended their unbeaten streak to six games, and pushed their record to 6-4-1 on the 2018 season. Pratt Institute dropped to 3-7 with the loss.
The Knights netted seven goals in the opening 45 minutes of action, with the first two coming courtesy of Carlos Veliz at 2:40 and 6:50, respectively. Veliz' first tally came courtesy of a beautiful pass from Meshema Charles. The second of those two goals was unassisted. Berkeley took a 3-0 lead at 7:56 when Omario Rosen tipped in his own rebound from deep inside the box. The Knights' fourth goal came at 11:10 when Gaetan Roody Derineau received a left wing pass from Ryuji Sugiyama before burying a ball into the top of the box.
Berkeley's final three goals of the opening session came courtesy of Rosen (from Sugiyama) at 19:49, Sugiyama (unassisted) at 36:02, and Tcharly Verna (from Charles) at 41:00.
In the second half, Pratt got on the board at 50:15 when Juan Gomez netted an unassisted goal by blasting a shot into the back of the net from 20 yards out to make it 7-1. The Knights' Amadou Sy would net the final two goals scored by either team on night, as he scored at 69:40 (unassisted) and 88:00 (from Charles) to make it 9-1 in favor of Berkeley. That would be the final score, with the Knights recording the eight-goal victory.
The Knights out-shot the Cannoneers 26-5 on the evening.
Berkeley will return to action on Friday evening, as the Knights will take to the road to battle Albany College of Pharmacy to battle the Panthers in an HVIAC match. Start-time is scheduled for 8:00pm.
