New-look Knights open 2025-2026 season with losses to Harriers, Builders

The Berkeley College women's basketball team began its 2025-2026 season this past weekend, competing in a pair of neutral-site games at Penn State Beaver. The Knights dropped both contests, falling to Miami-Hamilton this past Saturday (11/8) by a score of 43-38, and the Apprentice School this past Sunday (11/9), 60-35. Berkeley is 0-2 to start the new season.

November 8, 2025: Harriers 43, Knights 38

In what was a very low-scoring game fueled by solid defense, Berkeley was paced by Ariella Johnson, as she finished with a game-high 16 points (4-5 FT) to go along with five rebounds. Additionally, Aliyah Carroll and Anastasia Davis netted five points apiece, with Carroll's 11 rebounds serving as a team-high, and Davis snatched seven boards (five offensive).

Miami-Hamilton was paced by Beri Ngwa's double-double, as she scored a team-high 11 points while snatching a game-best 15 rebounds. Her six assists also led all players, and she also swiped two steals as well. Makenzee Maschino and Mackenzy Shackelford also scored eight points apiece, with Shackelford grabbing five boards.

The Harriers held a slim 19-15 advantage at the break, but scored the first eight points of the third quarter to take a 27-15 advantage with 7:04 remaining in the period. Ngwa scored six of her team's eight points during that aforementioned run. Miami-Hamilton went up by as many as 14 in the third (33-19), before taking a 35-23 lead into the final period.

Berkeley spent the opening 5:25 of the fourth scratching its way back into the contest, as the Knights put together a 9-0 run to pull to within three (35-32) with 4:35 to play. Ariella Johnson sparked Berkeley during that stretch with four points.

Later, with 1:52 remaining in the game, Diana Alicea converted on a long triple to knot the contest at 38-all. Unfortunately for the Knights, that would be the final scoring they'd produce for the game, as the Harriers scored the last five points of the game down the stretch to account for their five-point margin of victory. Taj Pewett's converted layup with 56 remaining put Miami-Hamilton up to stay.

Both teams struggled shooting the basketball, with the Harriers earning a conversion rate of 25 percent (14-56), and the Knights nailing just 14 of 60 shots (23.3 percent). Berkeley held a slim 46-42 edge on the glass, while also swiping 12 steals to the opposition's 10. Miami-Hamilton held a 9-3 edge in assists, and the teams were nearly identical in the turnover column, with the Harriers committing 24 miscues, and Berkeley finishing with 23.

November 9, 2025: Builders 60, Knights 35

Two players scored in double figures for the Knights in their loss to the Builders, with Ariella Johnson finishing with team-highs of 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals, and Carroll finalizing her evening with 11 points and five rebounds. Aliyah Smith scored six points, collected two boards, and swiped two steals for the Knights, as well.

Ronnice Berry put forth a dominant performance for Apprentice, posting game-highs of 29 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists. She also added three steals, as well. Dajanelle Linton-Robinson netted 10 points while grabbing six rebounds, swiping two steals, and swatting a pair of shots, and Carlee Baidy added seven points and five caroms.

In Sunday's matchup against Berkeley, Apprentice clamped down defensively, allowing just 12 first half points on the way to a 38-12 halftime advantage.

The Knights did score the opening six points of the third quarter, courtesy of a pair of converted freebees by Smith, a hoop by Carroll, and a bucket by Smith. That brought Berkeley within 20 (38-18) with 6:57 to go in the third. Later in the period, a drained Davis trifecta inched the Knights to within 17 (42-25) with 1:27 remaining in the game, but that would be the closest Berkeley would get, as Apprentice would outscored the Knights 18-10 the rest of the way to account for the 25-point win.

The Builders earned a shooting percentage of 32.4 percent for the game (24-74), while Berkeley hit just 11 shots for the contest (11-51, 21.6 percent). Apprentice held a massive 54-26 edge on the glass, and held advantages in assists (13-6) and steals (9-8). Apprentice also won the turnover battle, committing just 12 miscues while Berkeley had 14.

Next up for the Knights

Berkeley will return to action on Friday evening, as the Knights will travel to Central Maine Community College to clash with the University of Maine at Augusta. Start-time is scheduled for 6:00pm.
