Hard-working women's basketball team produces 3-3 record in past six contests

The Berkeley College women's basketball team put forth a 3-3 record in recent contests, as the Knights picked up victories against Bryant & Stratton Syracuse (72-55 on December 19), Villa Maria (7-48 on January 10), and Bryant & Stratton-Buffalo (78-72 on January 11), while falling to Bloomfield (91-51 on December 18), LIU (87-30 on December 29), and Penn State York (71-62 on January 7). With that aforementioned output, the Knights are now 8-9 on the 2025-2026 campaign, including a mark of 2-1 in the NACIA.

December 19, 2025: Berkeley 72, Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse 55

After the Knights lost an NACIA contest to Bloomfield the evening before, the Knights returned to action on December 19 and registered a convincing victory over Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse. In the win for the Knights, Arianna Wilder put forth a tremendous performance, scoring a game-high 29 points while knocking down seven of her 10 attempts from downtown, and six of her eight free throw attempts. Aliyah Carroll added 11 points, a team-high nine rebounds, three steals, and two assists, and Ariella Johnson finished with 11 points, seven boards, a game-high five assists, four steals, and a game-high two blocked shots.

Despite the loss for the Bobcats, Magnama Traore posted a double-double with 18 points, 13 rebounds, and two steals. Freey Pleasants put forth a strong all-around performance, as she netted 12 points, snatched a game-high 16 rebounds, dished six assists, and tallied five steals. And finally, Lanasia Drain narrowly missed recording a double-double, as she scored nine points and pulled down 10 boards.

The Knights held a modest 28-27 advantage at halftime, but a strong third quarter put some distance between Berkeley and the hosts. The teams exchanged the lead eight times in the opening 5:36 of the period, with the final pendulum swing coming when Smith converted on a layup to give her squad a 41-40 advantage. That bucket kick-started an 8-0 run for the Knights (courtesy of six points by Smith, and a basketball by Ariella Johnson), as Berkeley took a 47-40 lead. The visitors continued to push, eventually taking a 51-43 advantage into the fourth quarter.

In the final period, with the Knights leading 55-43, the Bobcats put together a 7-0 spurt to slice Berkeley's advantage to five, 55-50, with 6:40 remaining in the game. Following some back-and-forth play, the Knights found themselves with a 60-54 advantage with 3:44 to go. From that point on, Berkeley College played lockdown defense, not allowing another Bryant and Stratton-Syracuse field goal, and outscoring the opposition 12-1 to account for the 17-point margin of victory (72-55).

Neither team shot well from the floor, with the Knights earning a conversion rate of 33.3 percent (26-78), and the Bobcats connecting on just 21 of 66 shot attempts (21.8 percent). Berkeley was the more efficient team from the stripe, earning a conversion rate of 80 percent (12-15), while the hosts misfired on 10 free throws (11-21, 52.4 percent). The Knights held a 16-11 edge in assists and a 21-12 advantage in steals. Berkeley also swatted three shots to Bryant and Stratton-Syracuse's one, and the Knights won the turnover battle, committing 21 miscues, while the hosts had 36.

December 29, 2025: Long Island University 87, Berkeley 30

Despite Berkeley's loss to the Sharks, Carroll and Smith tied for the team-high of eight points. Carroll also pulled down four rebounds, while Smith contributed two. Ariella Johnson contributed six points, four rebounds, and two steals on the evening, as well.

Five players scored in double figures for LIU in its victory, including Kadidia Toure, as she finished with a game-high 15 points to go along with nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Hannah Humphrey contributed nine points, three rebounds, three steals, and two assists, and Laursa Molnarova netted 11 points, snatched a game-high 10 rebounds, and dished three assists. Janessa Williams finished with 10 points, five rebounds, and three dimes, and finally, Kionna Gaines contributed 10 points and three rebounds

The Sharks held Berkeley to single digit points scored in each of the first two quarters, taking a 48-15 advantage into the locker room at halftime. Coming out of the break, LIU scored the first 13 points of the third quarter, highlighted by Solangelei Akridge's two three-point conversions. LIU outscored Berkeley 25-11 in the third, and 14-4 in the fourth to win the game going-away.

The Sharks drained 40 out of 73 shot attempts on the evening (41.1 percent), while Berkeley was only able to connect on 11 field goals all night (11-48, 22.9 percent). LIU snatched 56 rebounds to Berkeley's 28, and the Sharks held advantages in assists (18-2), steals (16-11), and blocked shots (8-4). The hosts also won the turnover battle, committing 22 miscues, while the Knights had 33.

January 7, 2026: Penn State York 71, Berkeley 62

In the Knights' setback against the Nittany Lions of Penn State York, Ariella Johnson scored a team-high 17 points while tying for the game-high of seven assists. Additionally, she grabbed four rebounds. Nyeira Spady finished with 12 points, five rebounds, and two assists, and Aliyah Carroll finalized her evening with 11 points and six rebounds.

Penn State York was paced by the stellar performance of Delaney Burroughs, as she netted a game-high 26 points to go along with six rebounds and five assists. Kaya Camasta netted 14 points while dishing seven assists and grabbing six boards, and Skylar Curley finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Finally, Harper Poff added 12 points and six boards.

In what was a very competitive game from the jump, Berkeley trailed by five (16-11) after a quarter, but outscored Penn State York 22-17 in the second to deadlock the Nittany Lions at 33 as time expired on the opening half. In the third quarter, the teams exchanged the lead eight times, before a made jumper by Burroughs gave the hosts a 52-50 advantage. Penn State York would take a 53-50 advantage into the final period.

Berkeley College's shooting went ice cold in the fourth, as the Knights connected on just three of their 18 shot attempts. The Nittany Lions went up by as many as 10 points (65-55), before going on to win the contest by nine (71-62).

The Nittany Lions were the more efficient team shooting the basketball, as Penn State York connected on 37.3 percent of its attempts from the floor (25-67), compared to a 33.3 percent conversion rate for the Knights (22-66). Berkeley held a 37-30 edge in the rebounding department, but Penn State York held a 19-15 advantage in assists. The hosts also won the turnover battle, committing 20 miscues, while Berkeley finished with 26.

January 10, 2026: Berkeley 73, Villa Maria 48

In Berkeley's victory over the Vikings, Ariella Johnson scored a game-high 20 points to go along with five rebounds, four assists, and a pair of steals. Newcomer Savannah Williams added 15 points, three boards, and three steals. Spady nearly registered a double-double, as she contributed nine points, nine rebounds, a game-high five blocked shots, and three steals, and Carroll also just missed capturing a double-double, as she scored nine points and snatched nine boards.

Despite the loss for Villa Maria, the Vikings got 13 points apiece from Kiara Mercado and Keiliany Diaz. Mercado also contributed a game-high five steals to go along with three rebounds and three assists, and Diaz finished with four rebounds. Alyssa Saavedra registered eight points, two assists, and two steals, and Promise Myers' 12 rebounds led all players.

Berkeley dominated every quarter in this game with the exception of the third. The Knights led 22-14 after a period, and took a commanding 42-20 edge into the locker room at halftime. After Villa Maria creeped back into the contest by outscoring the hosts 19-5 in the third, Berkeley netted 26 points to the Vikings' seven in the fourth to account for the 25-point margin of victory (73-48).

The Knights earned a conversion rate of 37.8 percent on the night (28-74), while the Vikings connected on just 16 of their 75 shot attempts (21.3 percent). Berkeley out-rebounded Villa Maria 58-50, and the Knights held advantages in assists (14-11), steals (20-12), and blocked shots (7-1). The Knights also won the turnover battle, committing 35 miscues, while the visitors finished with 40.

January 11, 2026: Berkeley 78, Bryant & Stratton (Buffalo) 62

Four players scored in double figures for Berkeley in its victory over Bryant & Stratton (Buffalo), as Ariella Johnson finished with a game-high 21 points to go along with six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Carroll contributed 17 points and eight rebounds, and Robinson and Williams scored 12 points apiece. Robinson also tied for the team-high of 10 rebounds, and Williams contributed five boards and two steals.

For the visitors, Iyanna King posted a double-double with a team-high 17 points and 10 rebounds. De'Amani Davis added 14 points and six boards, and Chelsea Johnson finalized her evening with 12 points, five caroms, and two steals. Finally, it was Jordyn Cooper-Best posting a double-double, as she netted 10 points, snatched a game-high 11 boards, and led all players with six assists.

Berkeley College built a sizable lead early and maintained it, outscoring the Bobcats 28-13 in the opening quarter and 18-14 in the second to take a 46-27 advantage into the locker room at halftime. After a low-scoring third quarter saw Berkeley net 12 points to 11 for Bryant & Stratton (Buffalo), the visitors outscored Berkeley by a modest margin of 24-20 in the fourth, as Berkeley went on to win the game by 16.

The Knights earned a conversion rate of 37.6 percent (32-85) for the evening, while the visitors only connected on 21 of 70 shot attempts (30 percent). The teams were deadlocked at 53 rebounds apiece, and the Bobcats held a slim 15-14 edge in assists. Berkeley held a 10-7 advantage in steals, and the Knights won the turnover battle, committing just 12 miscues, while the visitors finished with 24.

Berkeley will return to action on this evening, as the Knights will travel to Dix Hills, NY for an NACIA clash with Five Towns College. Start-time for the contest is scheduled for 6:00pm.
