The Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners for the period of Monday, October 6 through Sunday, October 13 this past Tuesday, and Berkeley College was well represented. Shonoray Ryan of the New York men's soccer team was named the conference's Player of the Week, while Victoria Mikalsen-Sandstad was tabbed as women's tennis' Rookie of the Week. Briana Ortega (women's soccer) and John Durandisse (men's cross country) qualified for the Honor Roll list.
Shonoray Ryan – who has been the men's soccer team top goal scorer on the 2014 campaign – earned his second HVIAC Player of the Week award of the season. The midfielder earned that distinction thanks to his performance in Berkeley College's victory over Vaughn back on October 8, when he scored the game-winning goal against the Warriors while also notching a pair of assists.
Women's tennis' Victoria Mikalsen-Sandstad was tabbed as the sport's Rookie of the Week following her performance this past Friday against the College of New Rochelle, when the standout helped the Knights record their victory as a varsity sport. The sensation recorded victories at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles to lead Berkeley to a 7-2 victory over the Blue Angels.
Briana Ortega of the women's soccer team was named to the conference's Honor Roll list thanks to her hearty effort as a goalkeeper against the York College Cardinals back on October 8. Despite allowing three goals in a 3-0 defeat, the New York, NY native stopped a staggering 20 shots while keeping her team in the game.
The New York men's cross country team was represented by John Durandisse who was named to the Honor Roll list. The veteran was the top finisher for Berkeley College at the 2nd Annual City College of New York Classic, finishing in 38:56, a time good for 128th place overall.
